Personal injury crash leads to 5 injuries, 1 arrest

Five pedestrians recently suffered injuries in a car crash in Florida. Two of these pedestrians were infants. The personal injury accident, which took place on a Sunday afternoon, also led to the arrest of the man who reportedly caused it.

Police said the 29-year-old man was driving his car north along an avenue and suddenly entered the opposite traffic lanes. He then allegedly went onto the sidewalk and struck the five pedestrians. All of the pedestrians were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Authorities said the two infants in the pedestrian group were considered to be in critical condition. When asked if he had consumed any drugs or medications, the man reportedly told police that he had taken Percocet. When police questioned him in the hospital, the man's eyes were allegedly droopy, and he was speaking slowly. Authorities said they believed he had been drug impaired when the accident happened.

The individuals who suffered injuries in this Florida pedestrian crash may opt to file personal injury claims against the 29-year-old man, seeking damages. If he ends up being convicted on his charges, proof of the conviction may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to establish liability. Only if liability has been established will a judge decide claims for monetary damages. A successful outcome may lead to a monetary award that might help the personal injury crash victims to cover their hospital bills, any loss of wages and other losses resulting from the motor vehicle wreck.
