2 suffer personal injury, 4 youths are dead in two-car crash

Florida has suffered many tragic highway accidents in which some of its most promising young people have been struck down. Death and personal injury abound in accidents involving both high school and college students or young people in that age range. When such tragedies occur, there is often a period of adjustment that the surviving families and friends must experience.

The adjustment can be difficult and that is why there are counseling services offered at the schools attended by deceased students. These dynamics are now taking place with respect to a tragic and devastating accident occurring on the afternoon of June 9 that took the lives of four young people and critically injured two other persons, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The four dead persons were graduates of Jacksonville area high schools. The two females and two males ranged in age from 18 to 21 years. One of the five occupants, a 20-year-old male, was hospitalized in critical condition, per the authorities.

The Highway Patrol is still investigating and has not provided a description of how the accident occurred nor has it attributed fault to any parties in the two-car crash. All that is known at this time is that a car and an SUV crashed head-on at an intersection in the town of Bell in Gilchrist County. The Highway Patrol reported that none of the five occupants of the car wore seat belts, and it is unclear at this time which of the occupants was driving the vehicle.

The driver of the SUV was the only occupant of that vehicle. She is hospitalized with serious personal injury. When the police unravel the details and identity of the driver of the car, the estates of those decedents who were passengers will have the right to make a wrongful death claim for monetary damages against the either or both of the two drivers who are found to have been negligent. If both drivers are negligent causes of the accident, then the passengers will have claims against both through their estates or personally in the case of the survivor.
